The seaside resort town of Limenas Hersonissos is located 26 km east of Iraklion on the road to Agios Nikolaos. The original community Old Hersonissos and two other picturesque villages, Piskopiano and Koutouloufari are nestled in the foothills, overlooking the busy town of Hersonissos. Those villages along with the communities of Anissaras, Potamies, Avdou, Gonies and Kera form the municipality of Hersonissos.

Hersonissos boasts a number of long sandy beaches all along the coast, while a number of lovely small coves with sand or pebble beaches can be found to the west near Anissaras as well as to the east near Stalis (Stalida). There are also several smaller pebble beaches past the Lychnostatis Museum, east of Hersonissos. People who like to rest and sunbathe on their holidays will enjoy Hersonissos, its beautiful beaches swimming and snorkeling as well as a range of water sports.

There is a wide variety of modern hotels and apartments to satisfy every taste: from a large assortment of Luxury Resorts and world-class conference facilities, to charming family owned boutique hotels. The Hersonissos waterfront is famous for its night life with a diverse selection of restaurants and taverns, pubs and clubs next to the water.  The neighboring villages host a number of small hotels and apartments that offer a quiet and peaceful environment for family vacations.

Visitors to Hersonissos will have plenty of shopping opportunities as well as access to amenities such as car rental, an 18-hole championship golf course, water parks, day cruises to the neighboring island of Dia (Zeus) and many other small islets and beaches as well as excursions to other areas of natural and historical interest on the island.
